Issue
- I am still a bit confused about hotfixes. What should I do if I have more than one hotfix?
- Does a fix pack revert my hotfix installation or is some manual work needed before I install a fix pack?
Environment
Resolution
- We are releasing fix packs on our Help Center for all of our DXP customers. These fix packs contain multiple solutions that were backported and thoroughly tested by our Enterprise Release Team
- On the other hand, hotfixes are made for a specific issue report that we got through a customer ticket. They are usually meant as a quick, short-term fix, so you don't need to wait until the fix is released in a fix pack. As you may have multiple tickets and needs for fixes that are not yet released in a fix pack, we can add multiple fixes into a hotfix as well, and we are always including the previously provided fixes (from your older tickets).
- Since we don't want to remove those fixes that are already present in your fix pack, we are using it as a "base" and build the hotfix on top of that. Once you are changing to a newer fix pack which contains the fixes from the previously provided hotfix as well, the Patching Tool will notice this (executing the "info" command will tell you), and you will be able to install it simply with the "install" command.
- However, it can happen that the newer fix pack that you are changing into still doesn't contain the fixes provided in your hotfix (the process can take several weeks or even months in some cases). In this case the Patching Tool will tell you that there is a conflict that needs to be resolved. You will need to open a ticket to Liferay Support and request an updated hotfix. After this, we will rebuild the hotfix using the new fix pack as a "base", and provide it to you. This process is usually quick as much of it is automated.
