Issue

  • Is it possible to have an exact timeline on when a hotfix from Liferay Support will be ready?

Environment

  • Portal 6.1/6.2
  • DXP 7.0/7.1/7.2/7.3/7.4

Resolution

  • While there is no exact timeline from Liferay Support on when a hotfix will be ready, we, at Liferay are able to provide an estimate based on our process:
    1. Rebasing the fix for use with an existing particular fix pack level.
    2. Building the hotfix within our internal patching system.
      • This would normally take less than a day if no failures are encountered. However, the time can be lengthened depending on how long it takes to resolve said failures.
    3. After putting in the order to build the hotfix, the hotfix undergoes Automated QA Regression testing. This step is used to confirm that this new hotfix has not adversely affected existing features.
      • This will normally take less than a day if no failures are encountered. If failures are encountered manual changes would need to be made before going back to step 2.
        • Manual changes normally take less than a day if no failures are encountered.
    4. After the hotfix undergoes Automated QA regression testing and passes. Its next step is to undergo Manual Testing by your Support Engineer.
      • This step also takes less than a day if no errors are encountered.

How to Expedite a Hotfix?

  • Let your Support Engineer on the ticket know that this is a priority for your team. (This can be mentioned on the ticket when it's first opened if the priority is visible at this time)
    • Your Support Engineer will be able to designate this issue as a "Business Priority" which will ensure that the proper resources will be utilized in moving forward to help prevent any unnecessary delays from being encountered. They will also reach out proactively internally regarding the hotfix's updated status.
  • Let your Success Manager on the ticket know.
