Issue

  • Shielded container library in DXP 7.4 over global classpath(tomcat-<version>/lib/ext/ directory to load libraries globally)

Environment

  • Liferay DXP 7.4

Resolution

  • The DXP/Portal WAR's shielded container-lib folder includes DB drivers and other JARs as a convenience. You can still put JARs (such as DB drivers) in the global classpath (in the app server lib) to share them with other apps on the app server. Note, the JARs in the DXP/Portal WAR take priority over JARs shared globally in the application server.

If you're sharing a JAR globally in the app server and the JAR is substantially different from one in shielded-container-lib/ (e.g., a new major version may use different class/package names), they may conflict. If that is the case, it may be best to delete the JAR from the shielded-container-lib/ folder in the WAR and redeploy the WAR. With this note what you have observed is expected, please check and make the changes accordingly. Also, if you modify the DXP/Portal WAR, make sure to repeat those modifications in DXP/Portal patches or versions you update to.
