Acquiring DXP Apps

There are two types of DXP apps in marketplace: free and paid. Free apps can be downloaded, deployed to Liferay DXP, and used immediately without deploying a license. Paid apps have trial, developer, or standard licenses based on the publisher’s requirements. After installing a paid app, customers must create a license file and deploy it to Liferay DXP.

Marketplace also carries Liferay products, such as Content Marketing Platform and Digital Sales Room. These appear under My Products in your customer dashboard rather than My Apps, though both use the same form to create a license key.

Note

Client Extension apps are also available in Marketplace. Follow the standard procedures to download, purchase, and license apps. Downloaded files use the .zip extension.

Downloading a Free DXP App

  1. Log into your Liferay account at marketplace.liferay.com.

  2. Find the free app you want and click Get App.

  3. Select your account and confirm that you’ve read the End User License Agreement and the Terms of Service.

  4. Click Get App.

Click Download App to go to the app's Download page.

The app is ready for download. Click Download App to view the app’s Download page. This page shows app versions and supported Liferay DXP versions. One app version can support multiple DXP versions. Click Download next to the version you want to get the .lpkg file.

This page also has a Details tab where you can view the order details.

Purchasing a Paid DXP App

A paid app requires more steps.

  1. Log into your Liferay account at marketplace.liferay.com.

  2. Find the paid app you want and click Get App.

  3. Select your account and click Continue.

  4. Click Paid.

    Note

Some apps offer a trial period where you can try the app before you pay. Click Trial for such apps.

  5. Select the number of Standard licenses. If the app offers a trial period, you cannot purchase standard or developer licenses along with it. Developer licenses are available only if the publisher chose to provide them.

    LicenseDescription
Trial LicenseThe trial is valid for a limited time. During this period, customers can test the app to see if it meets their needs.
Developer LicenseEach license is limited to 5 unique IP addresses and shouldn’t be used in production.

Select the number of licenses you want.

  6. Click Continue.

  7. Click New Address to add a billing address. This is required before payment.

  8. Check that you’ve read the End User License Agreement and the Terms of Service.

  9. Click Pay Now. Currently, PayPal is the only accepted form of payment.

After payment, the app is ready for download. Click Download App to view the app page on your dashboard. There are three tabs on this page:

Details: Displays the order details.

Download: Lists app versions and supported Liferay DXP versions. One app version can support multiple Liferay DXP versions. After finding the right version, click Download to download the .lpkg file.

Licenses: Create the app’s .xml license file to deploy to Liferay DXP.

Creating a License

You must deploy a license file to activate paid DXP apps and Liferay products. Both use the same form, and only the path to it differs.

For a paid DXP app, go to your customer dashboard and select the app. Then click Licenses.

For a Liferay product, go to your customer dashboard and click My Products. Find the product’s order line, click View Details, and open the Activation tab.

From either tab, create the key:

  1. Click Create License Key.

  2. Select the type of license you want to generate based on your purchase.

A Liferay product generates one kind of key: A production key for an on-premise subscription.

  3. Click Continue.

  4. Enter the host name, IP addresses, and MAC addresses. You must provide at least one of the three. You can enter one IP/MAC address per line, and IPv6 addresses are not supported.

You can also change the pre-filled description, which cannot be edited once the key exists.

Enter details to create a license.

  5. Click Generate Key.

This generates an .xml license key and downloads it automatically.

For a Liferay product, the key also remains available on the Activation tab, so you can retrieve it later without generating another. There is no limit on how many keys you can generate.

To manage the license, click Actions (Actions) and select an action:

  • Select View License Details to see full license information.

  • Select Download License Key to re-download the license.

  • Select Deactivate License Key to deactivate it.

Note

You can also download and delete the license key in the modal that appears after clicking View License Details.

To create additional licenses for a paid DXP app, go back to your customer dashboard, click Actions (Actions) next to the app, and select Create License Key. For a Liferay product, click Create License Key again on the Activation tab.

Downloading a Liferay Product

Liferay products are distributed as .lpkg files. On the product’s page in your customer dashboard, click the Download tab and download the file. Deploy it to Liferay DXP together with the license key you generated.

For what to do with both files, see the product’s own documentation: Activating CMP or Activating Digital Sales Room.
