Audiences
Beta Feature Liferay DXP 2026.Q3+
An audience is a named group of visitors described by a set of conditions. Each condition checks a single attribute, such as the device type, the page URL, or membership in an Analytics Cloud segment. You can combine conditions with AND / OR logic, as well as nest groups of conditions to express more specific requirements. The visitor’s browser evaluates those conditions and determines which audiences they match.
Audiences is a beta feature behind the LPD-85746 feature flag. While the flag is off, the application is hidden and no detection script runs. Once the flag is on, you can open the Global Menu (
) and go to Applications → Audiences.
Audiences and Element Variations
Audiences are the targeting layer for element variations on content pages. An element variation replaces the content of one page element for a specific audience, so a single page can present different text or images to different visitors. At least one audience must exist before you can build element variations.
Because a visitor’s audiences are determined in their browser rather than on the server, a condition can use values only the browser knows, such as the local time on the visitor’s device. That is the main difference between an audience and a user segment. See Audience Detection to learn how Liferay DXP determines which audiences a visitor matches and when their variations are applied.
Attributes
Audience attributes fall into three groups.
- Browser: Information about the visitor’s device and browser, and about the page they are viewing, such as the device type, browser language, page URL, and time zone.
- General: The visitor’s sign-in state, the language Liferay DXP displays the page in, and the Analytics Cloud segments they belong to.
- Custom: Additional attributes added by an
audiencesCustomAttributesclient extension.
For every attribute, its value type, and the operators available to it, see the Audience Attributes Reference.
