Liferay PaaS Experience: Alerts
Grafana manages alerting for Liferay PaaS Experience environments. Liferay provisions a set of default alert rules that monitor the health of your environment and fire when monitored metrics exceed predefined thresholds.
Liferay manages both the alert rules and the notification channels as part of the platform, so there’s nothing to configure in your GitOps repository. Any PaaS User can view alerts. To add a custom alert rule or change where alert notifications go, open a support ticket with Liferay.
Default Alert Rules
The following alert rules are active in every PaaS Experience environment and apply to observable namespaces, meaning those the platform labels liferay.com/observable=true. Liferay applies that label to your environment namespaces, so every rule below covers your workloads.
| Alert | Severity | Condition | Pending Period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Container CPU Limit Utilization Above 80% | Warning | Average CPU utilization across containers exceeds 80% of the CPU limit | 5 minutes |
| Container Memory Limit Utilization Above 80% | Warning | Average memory usage across containers exceeds 80% of the memory limit | 5 minutes |
| High Rate of Pod Restarts Detected | Warning | Four or more pod restarts occur within a 30-minute window | None |
| Deployment or StatefulSet With Zero Ready Replicas | Critical | A Deployment or StatefulSet has no ready replicas for 10 minutes | None |
The CPU and memory alerts compare a two-minute rolling average against the 80% threshold, which prevents brief spikes from triggering false positives, and they evaluate every two minutes to match that window. The pod-restart and zero-ready-replicas alerts evaluate every minute and fire as soon as their condition holds, with no pending period.
Viewing Active Alerts
Click the Alerts tile on Central Hub, Grafana’s default home dashboard, to open the alerting list at /alerting/list. Liferay’s rules are in the alerts folder.
Each firing alert includes the rule name, severity, the metric value that triggered it, and the time it entered the firing state.
Notification Channels
Liferay configures the contact points that receive alert notifications and sets the default channel for rules that don’t name one. Email is the default contact point type.
To route alerts to a different address, add a channel, or send notifications somewhere other than email, open a support ticket with Liferay. Notification channels aren’t customer-configurable on Liferay PaaS Experience.
