Content Gap Analysis

Release Feature (LPD-58677) Liferay DXP 2026.Q3+

Content gap analysis finds the audiences and buyer journey stages your project has no content for, and helps you fill the gaps.

It works from the Content Coverage Matrix, a grid on your project’s Assets tab. Its rows are your personas, the kinds of reader you write for, and its columns are your funnel stages, how far along the buyer journey those readers are. Each cell counts the project’s assets for that pair, and a pair with no assets is a gap. The grid also has a No Persona row and a No Funnel column, for assets missing one of the two categories, and those never count as gaps.

Two AI agents work from that grid. The Content Gap Analyst reports which cells are empty and which gaps matter most, and you start it with Get AI Insights in the matrix header. It then offers two ways to act on a gap: link assets that already exist in your CMS, or generate a new draft. The other agent writes that draft, and you start it with Generate Content for Gaps in the AI Assistant or with Generate on a single cell.

Both run in the AI Assistant, so you get the analysis, the asset suggestions, and the new content by answering questions in a chat.

Important

An administrator must enable CMP and connect your instance to AI Hub before the AI actions appear. If you don’t see Get AI Insights on the matrix, contact your administrator. See Activating CMP and Integrating AI Hub with Liferay DXP.

You must be a member of a Liferay CMS space with permission to manage projects and content.

Assign personas and funnel stages to your project before you start. The matrix appears once the project carries at least one persona or funnel stage category, but the agents only find real gaps when both axes have categories. See Personas and Funnel Stages.

Analyzing Content Gaps

Run the Content Gap Analyst from the matrix header, then read its list of gaps in the AI Assistant.

  1. From your Liferay CMS space, click Projects under Planning, and then open your project.

  2. Select the Assets tab.

  3. In the Content Coverage Matrix header, click Get AI Insights.

The Content Coverage Matrix header on the project's Assets tab shows a 100% Covered label at its left and the Get AI Insights button at its right, above the grid of persona and funnel stage cells.

The AI Assistant opens as a sidebar and sends the message Get AI insights for the “[project name]” content coverage matrix. Clicking Get AI Insights again closes the sidebar.

  4. Read the response. It opens with a summary of how many personas and funnel stages were analyzed and how many combinations are gaps, then lists one bullet per gap, highest severity first:

You have two gaps to address.

    - Decision Maker / Awareness (high) — Nothing introduces the platform to this audience.
    - End User / Retention (medium) — Nothing supports existing users after onboarding.

Each bullet names the persona, the funnel stage, a severity of high, medium, or low, and a one-sentence reason.

The Content Gap Analyst's response in the AI Assistant shows the summary line, one bullet per gap, and the Find Matching Assets in CMS and Generate Content for Gaps options.

A gap is a combination with no content at all. A cell holding even one asset isn’t a gap, which is why the count in the matrix header and the agent’s list agree.

The analyst skips the No Persona and No Funnel cells. Assets missing one of the two categories aren’t a coverage gap, so they never appear in the analysis.

The analysis always covers the whole matrix. Filtering the matrix by clicking a cell narrows the asset list below it, not the analysis.

When no combination has any content, the analyst returns a single All personas / All funnel stages bullet and tells you to start by adding and categorizing content. When every combination already has content, it returns No content gaps found: every persona and funnel stage combination already has content.

The Content Gap Analyst only reports and changes nothing in your project. To act on a gap, choose one of the two options it offers under What would you like to do next?

Covering Gaps with Existing Assets

Use Find Matching Assets in CMS when content for the gap may already exist in your Liferay CMS space.

  1. In the AI Assistant, click Find Matching Assets in CMS.

The agent searches Contents and Files across the CMS, not only the assets already linked to your project. It returns assets already categorized with both the gap’s persona and its funnel stage.

  2. Review the Suggested Assets list. Each entry shows the asset title, its status, and a one-sentence reason it matches.

  3. Answer Would you like me to add all suggested assets? Click Yes to link every suggested asset to your project, or No to leave the project unchanged.

This one answer covers the whole list. You can’t pick individual assets.

After you click Yes, the matrix and the asset list refresh a moment later, with no page reload.

When the search finds nothing, the assistant says so and shows no Suggested Assets list and no question to answer. Generate content for the gap instead.

Generating Content for a Gap

Use Generate Content for Gaps when no existing asset fills the gap.

  1. In the AI Assistant, click Generate Content for Gaps.

The agent works on the highest severity gap from the analysis. To fill a different one, generate from that gap’s cell in the matrix instead.

  2. Answer Which space? by clicking the space where you want the entry created.

The AI Assistant asks, Which space? and offers the available spaces below the question.

  3. Read the response. The agent creates the entry, assigns the gap’s persona and funnel stage to it, links it to your project, and returns the entry’s title as a link with a Draft label beside it.

Each request creates one entry. The entry is saved as a draft in the space you chose and carries the AI-generated keyword, so you can find every generated entry by searching that keyword. Review and publish the draft yourself.

The matrix and the asset list refresh a moment later.

Generating Content from a Matrix Cell

A cell’s Generate action starts the same agent already scoped to that cell’s persona and funnel stage, which is how you choose a gap other than the highest severity one.

  1. On your project’s Assets tab, hover over the cell for the persona and funnel stage you want.

  2. Click Generate.

Hovering the cell for the Decision Maker persona and the Awareness funnel stage reveals a Filter action and a Generate action inside the cell.

The assistant opens with the message Generate content for the “[persona]” persona and the “[funnel stage]” funnel stage. and goes straight to the space question, skipping What would you like to do next?

  3. Answer Which space? by clicking the space where you want the entry created.

The Generate action doesn’t appear on the No Persona and No Funnel cells, which name no pair to generate for.
