Account Entry Validation

Enabling the VIES Validator

Liferay DXP 2026.Q3+ Release Feature

The VIES validator is the account entry validator Liferay provides out-of-the-box. Configure it once for the Liferay instance, then enable validation on each channel that must enforce it. See Account Entry Validation for what the validator checks and how each mode treats a result.

An instance administrator must enable the Account Entry Validation and VIES Validator (LPD-89850) release feature flag before these settings appear.

The Liferay instance must be able to reach the VIES endpoint over HTTPS. Every check returns a technical failure while the endpoint is unreachable.

Configuring the Validator

These settings control which countries are checked and how long a result stays valid.

  1. Open the Global Menu (Global Menu) → Control Panel → Instance Settings → Accounts.

  2. Click VIES Account Entry Validator.

  3. Configure these settings:

    SettingDescription
EnabledRuns the VIES validator for the instance. Selected by default.
VIES Endpoint URLURL of the VIES check-vat-number REST endpoint. Defaults to https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/rest-api/check-vat-number.
Check IntervalNumber of days before a VAT number is checked against VIES again. Defaults to 15, with a minimum of 1.
Country CodesCountries whose VAT numbers go to VIES. Move country names between the Available and In Use columns. In Use holds the 27 EU member states by default.
  4. Click Save.

The VIES Account Entry Validator screen in Instance Settings shows the Enabled checkbox, the VIES Endpoint URL, the Check Interval, and the Country Codes dual list.

The Country Codes columns list the instance’s active countries. Deactivating a country drops it from this configuration the next time you save the screen. Add only countries the EU VIES service supports.

Enabling Validation on a Channel

Every channel starts with Account Entry Validation set to Disabled. Before choosing a blocking mode, confirm that your business accounts have Tax IDs. A business account that bills from a listed country and has no Tax ID is blocked at checkout as soon as the mode takes effect. See Accounts for where the Tax ID is set.

  1. Open the Global Menu (Global Menu) → Commerce → Channels.

  2. Select the channel linked to your site.

  3. On the General tab, under Orders, set Account Entry Validation to the validation mode this channel must enforce.

  4. Click Save.

The channel's General tab shows the Account Entry Validation setting in the Orders section.

Confirming the Configuration

Run this check on a channel set to a blocking mode, using business accounts that bill from a country in the validator’s Country Codes list.

  1. Place a test order from a business account with a valid EU VAT number in its Tax ID field.

  2. Attempt a second test order from a business account with an invalid VAT number.

  3. Open each order from the Orders list and check its Account Validation Results window.

The first order completes and its History panel records a SUCCESS. The second stops at the Order Summary step with only the Previous button, and its History panel records a FAILURE.
